The Savor Brands team attended Purple Mai'a's 10th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, May 25, 2024. It was a pleasure to attend and witness firsthand the impact Purple Mai'a had on the community and Hawaii's youth.

What is Purple Mai'a?
Purple Mai'a was founded in 2013 by Olin Lagon, Donavan Kealoha, and Kelsey Amos. They wanted to educate and empower Kanaka Maoli and other people of Hawaii to excel in areas like technology and entrepreneurship. As Purple Mai'a continues to grow and evolve, their mission still remains the same: to inspire and educate the next generation of culturally grounded, community serving technology makers and problem solvers.
Why Purple Mai'a?
Purple is amongst one of the rarest colors in nature and symbolizes the discovery of the "purple-ness" that make each student rare and unique.
Mai'a is Banana in Hawaiian and references the banana tree's purple flower.
