Mini Coffee, Massive Taste: A Fun Friday Tiny Brew Session

What is Siphon Brewing?

Siphon (or vacuum) brewing is one of the most fascinating ways to make coffee. It uses heat, vapor pressure, and vacuum suction to move water between chambers, brewing the coffee through full immersion before pulling it back down through a filter. It’s a method that:
  • Looks like it belongs in a lab
  • Offers total control over temperature and timing
  • Produces a clean, aromatic cup
This technique is usually reserved for specialty shops or home brewing enthusiasts with a flair for the dramatic. But in our case? We went miniature. To brew coffee with a siphon, start by filling the bottom chamber with filtered water and attaching the filter to the upper chamber. Place the upper chamber on top without sealing it tight. Apply heat to the bottom until the water rises into the top. Once it’s up, add medium-fine ground coffee and stir to saturate. Let it brew for about 45 to 60 seconds. Remove the heat so the brewed coffee can be pulled back down through the filter by vacuum. Once it's fully settled, remove the top and serve.

We couldn’t think of a better roast to showcase than Guji by Wild Gift Coffee. It was perfect as siphon brewing brings out clarity and brightness in a cup, making it ideal for highlighting fruity, floral, and complex notes. It’s a natural Ethiopia coffee from the Oromia region with tasting notes that are bright and expressive.
  • Berries
  • Citrus
  • Hibiscus
This coffee's clean body and fruity profile are a great match for the siphon’s clarity-focused method. If you're curious, you can learn more or order a bag here.
